Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Krkonose Museum already open?

Yes. After a six-year closure, reconstruction and the preparation of the new permanent exhibition, it was inaugurated on 1 November 2023. It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Mondays.

What’s this sort of brook here?

It is the River Labe (the Elbe), as the town’s name slightly implies. It flows through Vrchlabi still as a smaller river, but due to its numerous tributaries grows larger until it reaches the sea.

We would like to drive to Mount Snezka, how do we get there?

The nearest you can get to Mount Snezka is the town of Pec pod Snezkou. There are several ways to continue from there, including hiking trails of various difficulty and a cable car. Driving right to the summit of Mount Snezka is not possible. The highest Czech mountain lies in the most strictly protected part of the Krkonossky National Park.

What can we do here all day?

Look at the page called A Day in Vrchlabi. There are detailed instructions, or you can just draw inspiration from that.

It’s raining; do you have something to recommend?

Yes, we have prepared a range of things to do when the weather is bad. You can use it to draw inspiration from, or come and ask us in the Information Centre.

Where can we park? Ideally for free?

There are large free car parks near the Augustinian monastery and the Kartonka cinema, no more than 5 minutes’ walking distance from the main square. Other free car parks are located next to the Strelnice culture centre, Aqua Centrum, and the football stadium in Vejsplachy, but that takes some walking to get to the centre from them. Overview of all parking areas on mapy.cz.

Is there a restaurant with a children’s corner?

Yes, the Coolino (formerly Mincovna) and Café Bistro U Sedmikrasek offer a children’s corner. If the weather is good you can try the Svejk restaurant in the Strelnice culture centre with a garden next to a children’s playground.

Where can we find a children’s playground?

The available children’s playgrounds can be found near the Strelnice culture centre, near the lake in the Vejsplachy resort, in the parish garden in Chelcickeho St., the Rakosnickovo playground in Ceskych bratri St. and elsewhere – see mapy.cz for more.
